Medialon has been selected by the american-based
integrator Scharff Weisberg to be part of “Pour Your
Body Out”, a monumental multimedia artwork installation
created by Swiss artist Pipilotti Rist for the Museum of
Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, USA.
“Pour Your Body Out” is a 7354 cubic meters artwork
installation where visitors are immersed in 25 feet high
and 200 feet across HD moving images which wrap the
museum’s atrium walls. Images, sound and sculptural
elements help depicting the artist’s vision which is to
give visitors a unique experience and reconcile
themselves with the perception of their own bodies and
the surrounding environment.
Scharff Weisberg designed and provided audio and video
support for the large-scale installation along with a
Medialon system to control and supervise the video
projection.
“The main challenge with this project was creating a
continuous image on three walls, while locating
projectors within sculptural pieces”, recalls Joshua
Weisberg, President of Scharff Weisberg company.
Projectors are concealed from view and mounted 25 feet
above the floor in bubble-shaped enclosures conceived as
sculptures by the artist and her studio, Atelier Rist
Sisters, and become part of the projection surface
itself.
“Engineering the coordination of the physical and
ventilation aspects required to mount the projectors was
quite challenging due to the size and shape requirements
of the bubbles as stipulated by the Studio,” says Joshua
Weisberg. “Although we’ve worked on many high-profile
art projects, this is the first time we’ve installed
equipment inside the artwork itself”.
One Medialon Manager PRO Show & Media Control software
is daily used to control and synchronize the entire
video equipment of the installation including
a six-node Watchout system to play out the media.
Control and video signals are supported by a gigabit
fiber optic network and DVI/fiber transmission system.
The Christie projector complement comprises four HD18s,
one S+16, one DS+8k and one HD12k.
“We are a long-time Medialon user and utilize
Medialon for all our comprehensive Media Control
requirements”, concludes Joshua Weisberg.
At Scharff Weisberg Walter Elzey was account executive
for the installation; Joe Volpe project manager; Barry
Grossman, Randy Briggs and Tim Clark engineers; and Juan
Mateo projection technician. Chris Keitel from 3-Byte
Intermedia did the Medialon programming.
