Paris based Caravanserail created
a unique and elaborate arts attraction that requires
numerous video sources, sound and other electronic
components to run in exact synchronization to simulate a
bus journey. The company choose to run the presentation.
Producer of audiovisual work and live shows,
Caravanserail supports and develops innovative arts
projects. One such project, Alternative, called for
numerous artists to create audio visual works around
based on their travel experiences. After having
travelled to exotic locales, such as Mali, Peru,
Burkina-Faso, Venezuela, Senegal and Brazil, the
Caravanserail team shares its experience with the public
through the documentary films they create in the
process.
Thanks to the French Ministry of culture and numerous
others partners and sponsors, Alternative Nomade allows
spectators to experience the works as virtual journeys
while sitting on a custom built AV bus. Culturally
enriching and entertaining, these logbooks become an
event that transports visitors to the locations covered
by the artists. Video is projected on six side panes
simultaneously and on the windshield of the bus.
The system uses the Medialon Manager to control all of
the audio and video playback devices, which include
Medialon Display Players streaming MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and
MPEG-4. The Medialon system guarantees the
synchronization of all the players via an Ethernet
network.
Each art tour lasts an hour, playing non-stop while
giving the impression that passengers are traversing the
roads of each destination. Visitors then retire to a
second room on the bus, arranged as a living room, where
additional films are shown in a more traditional manner.
The exhibit has stopped in Lyon, Marseille and la Belle
de mai, for a one week in each city. Additional cities
will include. |
