Champions Square in New Orleans, LA, USA, is a new
outdoor festival space located next to the Louisiana
Superdome and New Orleans Arena. Its cutting edge
technology and unique amenities make it the perfect
place to host pre and post game activities, outdoor
concerts, festivals, special events and more. The
100,000sqf Champions Square can welcome up to 30,000
fans during game days.
Solomon Group, a professional Louisiana-based A/V
integrator, selected Medialon to be the main A/V
controller of the entire Champions Square’s audio,
lighting and video systems.
One Medialon Manager Lite show and media control
software controls a MediaMatrix NiON for the audio
system, several DVCam and BetaCam Decks along with a
Hog3PC for the lighting. Four Searchlights with
ADAM-6060 modules to turn on/off the power are also
controlled by Medialon Manager.
Thanks to Medialon Manager Panel software, Solomon Group
especially designed a user-friendly interface for the
Champions Square staff. From a single touch of a button
and from one single point of control, the staff can
easily select the A/V mode he wants to run in the
Champions Square. This interface is accessible from
anywhere in the square area as it is available from
Medialon Rugboard wireless touch screen. A weatherproof
WiFi access point has been mounted on the tallest tower
to cover the entire square.
“The individual components of the system were each too
complex for an event coordinator to manage if they just
wanted to turn on the lights and have the music play, so
a centralized control system was needed to be able to
create “presets” that anyone could access.”, declares
Jonathan Foucheaux, Partner at Solomon Group in charge
of the project.
“So this is the reason why we chose Medialon because we
wanted to have a totally networked solution to combine
all the complex subsystems into a single easy to use
interface for event coordinators, maintenance staff, and
even the local TV station to be able to use by simply
recalling presets for “Hornets”, “Saints”, “On”, “Off”,
“Worklights”, etc.”, ads Foucheaux.
New Orleans’ Hornets basketball arena is located across
the Champions Square from the SuperDome. Hornets games
use the Champions Square system to light up in the blue
and gold team colors. A Medialon Scheduler software is
used to call up the lighting presets on game nights. The
entire Hornets season's schedule has been entered by
Solomon Group into the Medialon Scheduler and the system
takes care of everything automatically with no need for
a technician to turn the lights on and off during game
nights.
“Medialon provides a unified control system for the
various lighting, video, and audio systems. It allows
minimally trained event coordinators to make magic
happen in the square by recalling presets”, concludes
Jonathan Foucheaux from Solomon Group.
The Champions Square is opened since August 2010.
