Medialon Manager goes “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea” at La Cité
de la Mer in Cherbourg, France
Medialon Manager has been selected by the French-based integrator E/T/C,
for show and media system control of the new attraction “On a marché
sous la mer” at La Cité de la Mer in Cherbourg, France.
Housed in the heart of the Art Deco famous Transatlantic Maritime
Station of Cherbourg city, La Cité de la Mer is a scientific theme park
which recounts the adventure of the man under the sea.
With more than 1,500,000 visitors since its opening in 2002, La Cité de
la Mer is a unique place in Europe.
“On a marché sous la mer” (“We walked under the sea”) attraction allows
the visitor to become the main hero of a 1-hour extraordinary trip in
the deep ocean. Accompanied by Captain Glass, the visitor will board
with 15 other crew members into a submarine capsule and explore the
undersea just like the first explorers did 50 years ago. But before
discovering the 10,000 meters depth undersea life, abysses, volcanic
eruptions and amazing seascapes, the crew will have to familiarize with
the abyssal darkness and learn how to communicate together under the sea
with signs.
This high quality show uses the most advanced technologies, including a
Medialon Manager Show and Control system, and gives the visitor the most
realistic sensations.
“The project was complex” said Patrick Dury, E/T/C Project Manager.
Medialon Manager V4 PRO controls the 7 different areas of the attraction
including: 22 IP video cameras used to film the visitors to inlay them
in a final cut; 24 motorized doors, 12 video projectors, 4 motorized
screens, 4 dynamic simulators, 1 DMX Graduator, 4 FTP servers, 1
Audio/Video server with 16 channels, 2 video Scalers, 2 Digitherme
(which is a thermometer RS232), 4 Chroma keys, sound in each rooms of
the attraction, etc.
“We chose Medialon Manager software because of its huge ease of
programming, its ability to control any devices via any protocol and its
Positrack functionalities” said Patrick Dury. The other important thing
was also the fact that “Medialon system can be easily used by someone
from the La Cité de la Mer” added Patrick Dury.
Medialon Manager also controls 12 ETC Digipanel interfaces, 18 Infrared
zones for the audio guides, and 5 Only View real-time inlays.
Medialon Manager V4 PRO comes with free user interface design software
to easily deploy multiple control interfaces such as touch screens, over
a network called Medialon Manager Panel. Two of these have been
integrated for the attraction and allow the flow of visitors’ management
and the temperature control of the equipment in the control room.
