Medialon is used to automate the “Light of the Angels” Christmas Tree in Los Angeles, CA, USA. Dennis M. Kornegay from Architectural LEDS, an american-based integrator, was in charge of all the Medialon’s system programming and installation.

“Light of the Angels” show celebrates the opening of the L.A. LIVE entertainment complex located across from the world famous Staples Center with a free holiday multimedia and light show featuring a 52-foot tall tree on the 42,000 square foot Nokia Plaza.

The tree is part of a multi-dimensional light display combining both holiday music and advanced techno-artistry, entirely controlled by Medialon Manager. The show includes fourteen giant video screens on six 85' towers enveloping the plaza with state-of-the art sounds and lights, as well as a massive 40’ wide HD screen on the 5-story AEG building, which is also completely covered in a low-res video curtain as part of the building’s architecture.

Medialon Manager has been integrated to centralize show control to single screen and push buttons to enable on-the fly shows as well as precisely timed events every night.

“Content was developed separately for each media, i.e. tree content, video content, audio content, lighting design”, says Dennis M. Kornegay, Chief Technology Officer of Architectural LEDS. “Medialon is used to pull it all together for the final look of the show”, he adds.

The Christmas tree is covered with over 11,000 XL Sphere LED lights (the only 360-degree light and video source in the world) and is driven by a D3 video processor by United Visual Artists. The main plaza sound system is a JBL Vertec line array with Crown I-TECH amplifiers along with surround speakers on each tower.

The show lasts 7 minutes and combines lights, audio and video and never-before-seen 3-d special effects within the tree to create a holiday spectacular that will become a new tradition and L.A. LIVE's gift to the City.

One Medialon Manager Pro license also controls and synchronizes the following AV equipment:
- XL LED Spheres
- United Visual Artists D3 Video Controller
- 3x Sony PDW-75 XDCAM-HD decks
- Evertz HD-9010 Time Code generator
- 7x Mitsubishi DSC LED Controllers
- Sony IXS-6700 HD-SDI router
- 3x BSS Blu-80 audio DSP
- Lightolier Optio system
- Epic Productions custom low-res Pixel Wall
- Color Kinetics Digital Light Engine
- Whole Hog PC lighting controller
- JL Cooper Rackshot and Keyshot

“We chose Medialon because of its flexibility in controlling various media, ease of programming, ease of training and its customizable screens feature.”, concludes Dennis M. Kornegay.

For the opening ceremony, Britney Spears, with the Los Angeles City Councilwoman Jan Perry, and Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, flipped a candy cane switch to light the Christmas tree in Nokia Plaza. Natalie Cole sang live for the event which was carried on Superstation KTLA, broadcast in 5 countries and streamed over the internet to a worldwide audience.

The show will play nightly at 7, 8, 9 and 10pm starting December 5th until December 31st, 2008.
