The brainchild of two of Holland's biggest television
networks, NOVA is a one hour long news analysis show
that comes on after the local and national news have
already been broadcast. The challenges of this project
are similar to those inherent in all aspects of a live
TV program. Reliability is critical, while the ability
to update in real time is an absolute must. For this
particular show, the show's producers wanted a high tech
set with a slightly artistic bent. This was realized
using four screens in the background of the set, each
displaying moving video content from the day's news. The
slightly more artistic aspect comes in via the
presentation of the video: each of the four screens can
be used separately or as one, with video media (live
streaming video, graphics, and live video-links) being
presented at a delayed pace across the screens.
A single Medialon Manager Lite Edition gathers video
data from an internal server while simultaneously
controlling a 32 point video matrix, 4 Adtec MPEG
players, an Electrosonic Videowall Splitter, a BTS DD30
video desk, and 4 Betacom players. However, "the real
challenge for this project was creating an interface
that most anyone could use. Because all media is
collected and ordered just hours before a show, we
needed a program that could accomplish this quickly and
efficiently while remaining extremely user-friendly,"
said Sierk Janszen of Ground Zero, the Dutch programming
firm that was in charge of programming this unique user
interface.
Medialon Manager's ability to customize its user
interfaces led to yet another successful collaboration
between Medialon and Ground Zero. |
