In January of 2004, the CUNARD fleet completed the
construction of the biggest ship ever: the Queen Mary
2. Two times longer than the Queen Elizabeth 2 at
150,000 tons, the QM2 can accomodate 2,620 passengers
and is served by a crew of 1,254 people. The ship
features 14 bridges, 10 restaurants, 14 bars and 5
swiming-pools.
Among the installations are two theatres, the “Royal
Court” and the “Illuminations” auditorium. The former
features three musicals (Apassionata, Rock@theOpera and
Zing went the String) and the latter is fit with a
planetarium star projector.
To securely synchronize all the shows in the
prestigious theatres, installation company HMS in Saint-Nazaire,
France specified Medialon Manager show control
software.
In each theater, a Medialon Manager Pro version
receives time code from a Tascam MX 2424 and
synchronizes video, audio effects, lighting and rigging
on its timeline. Thanks to the device position tracking
capacity of Medialon Manager, programming during show
rehearsals was easy.
4 touch panels with new Medialon Manager Panel software
running on a Medialon Rugboard panel PC are used in the
different booths and backstage to display comments and
orders during a show performance (next scene, time
code…) or send confirmation information to the main
booth.
All equipment is connected via TCP IP (Main Show control
machine, Touch Panels, IP to RS interface) except the
Midi and Time code interface which are connected
directly to the PC.
In addition to show control, Medialon Manager is used as
a remote control system to recall 7 different room
presets or directly control each individual piece of
equipment when the theater is used for other activities
(Bingo, dancing, etc ...).
During shows, a Second Medialon Manager Pro is running
permanently, monitoring the main one and ready to take
over the job in case of failure of the first Manager
system. |
