Faced with a vulnerable controller
for their main feature Masquerade Show In The Sky,
management at the Rio Hotel & Casino opted to use the
opportunity for a complete rework of the show systems,
using Medialon Manager as the core of the new
installation.
“We were having a lot of frustration with audio levels
as our shows have evolved, and of course, there are no
spare parts for the original control system”, quips
Michael Paulin, Head of Entertainment at the
RIO. “ We had a chance to update our playback and
distribution technology, add new MPEG video, and tie it
in with other entertainment systems within the resort.
Manager had the legacy hooks for the older equipment we
retained, improved connections to new items, and gave us
a nicer operator interface.”
Jason Goldenberg of PRG Lighting Inc. in Las Vegas both
spearheaded the technical replacement and supervised the
programming. “We wanted to try a new layout for
connection of the apparatus, to take advantage of some
of the more advanced features of Manager, including the
automation of time-of-day functions. While some of the
interfaces proved thorny at first, we were able to sort
them all out effectively. Medialon has been very
consistent with their technical response”, says Jason.
Masquerade Show In The Sky uses overhead manned floats
to present a Mardi Gras theme seven days a week.
Elements of the show are automatically day-parted and
operator overrides are used along with an automated
intercom countdown to ensure that performers are in
place for the main show sequence. The show involves
some forty-five performers and a crew of nine.
Equipment controlled includes six frames of BSS
Soundweb, Yamaha DM2000 and WholeHog consoles, TASCAM
MX-2424 and Alcorn-McBride playback, and Extron video
switching, all running under multiple timelines. |
