Metafilm has recently completed a spectacular multimedia
experience set in a rouge environment inside a mountain.
Fjellsprengningsmuseet - The Norwegian rock blasting
museum - in Lillehammer, Norway wanted to create a
visitor center out of the ordinary. To celebrate more
than 100 years of history of blasting tunnels and dams
in the wast Norwegian mountainside
Fjellsprengningsmuseet opened in the summer of 2004.
What other venue could be better suited to tell the
story than a custom made, 240 meter long, tunnel blasted
right into a mountain.
Metafilm, an Oslo Norway based production company and
systems integrator, was in charge of making the mountain
come alive. The tunnel is an hash environment with cold
water coming down from the ceiling and was not an ideal
place for electronic equipment. In addition the length
of the site represented a challenge.
Metafilm chose Medialon Manager V3 wich proved to be
perfectly suited for the task of controlling the 22
Pioneer plasma displays and Panasonic projectors,
synchronising the Adtec Edje video devices (via
Ethernet), the 200 lights (via DMX) and doors, buttons,
sensors and main currents (via relays/Ethernet).
A touch screen with a custom user interface built in the
Medialon Manager makes it easy to customize the
experience. Visitors have the choice of different
languages, in addition the guides can reprogram the mood
of the whole site for temporary events and monitor the
whole installation.
The center opened in June 2004 and has worked without
downtime since. It has received favourable reviews and
been visited by tens of thousands. |
