A
Medialon show control system is smoothing the path for
Boos XL Video Netherlands on the new Dutch stage
production of "The Wiz". Inspired by the film of the
classic Wizard of Oz story starring Diana Ross and
Michael Jackson, the new musical from Joop van den Ende
theater productions had its European premiere in
Utrecht, The Netherlands.
"The Wiz" is "high-tech, old-fashioned, and brand new",
says XL Video Netherlands Director Martijn Meeuwis.
"There’s lots of new technology: LED lighting strips,
huge widescreen projection, moving lights and pyro. XL
has offices around the world, and we’ve been using
Medialon more and more, especially as a show control
system in the rental market for our LED and projection
systems".
For "The Wiz", Medialon is used in full show control
mode. "We put the light board to Medialon with a MIDI
control interface so the lighting technician can control
Medialon with lighting cues," Meeuwis explains. "Medialon
sends signals to Watchout, and it controls six Barco SLM
R12+ projectors and a Sony VPL-FX51 projector turning
them on and off and manipulating their shutters and
files. There are two widescreens on stage at different
distances, and each file shifts sizes and lenses. We
made a start-up screen, power up and on, and can see the
temperature of the projector and the lens status".
Medialon also controls the show’s seven lipstick
cameras, four infrared lamps and 30 LCD monitors.
"We like Medialon", says Meeuwis. "We see a long future
between Medialon and XL Video. We’re just at the
beginning".
Handling technical design for "The Wiz" are Meeuwis, Zac
Borovay and Ruppert Bohle. |
