Tower of David, the Museum of the history of Jerusalem
in Israel, launched a new spectacular night show.
ETC France and Protech Integration, the leading company
of digital display and video in Israel, have selected
Medialon Manager to control the entire installation.
The Tower of David, considered as a central cultural
institution in Israel, is located in the magnificently
restored citadel in the heart of Jerusalem. Within the
Citadel’s walls, the Museum initiates and undertakes
projects that try to add additional dimensions to the
usual museum experience. The new spectacular night show
joins a long tradition of exhibits and projects, which
herald the juxtaposition of ancient and modern.
The night show, with its mesmerizing film footage,
envelopes the spectator in a unique multi-sensory
experience. Composed of motifs connected to the history
of the city, its significance and its spirit, the show’s
dynamic collage changes our perceptions of time and
place.
Created by Skertzo, the show is a combination of
artistic techniques including a giant sound and
projection systems that work together to create a
powerful experience.
“We had complicated technical challenges: sensitive
electronic equipment that needed to be installed in open
space under severe climate changes all year round. There
was also the need to overcome problems stemming from
working in an archeological site in with complex
physical conditions, strict aesthetic demands and
extremely difficult cable laying” said Yehuda Vaknin,
whom was in charge of the complete technical management,
“We selected Protech Integration for their proved
capabilities, a company that could lead us through this
complicated project so we could open according to the
time goal we set for ourselves.”.
As soon as the project was confirmed, Protech
Integration and ETC France, had less than three months
to decide on equipment, install infrastructure, design
and assemble weather-proof projection rooms, lay fiber
optic cables for video and control and design command
rooms.
“Because of the impossible time schedule, we had to
install equipment and design the system at the same
time, the only way to succeed was to work in a very
precise time table” said Asi Goren from Protech
Integration. “Thanks to the experienced Protech team and
the devotion of our people, we identified and solved the
problems before they arise, so we did not waste presses
time on fixing faults”.
The show is comprised of characters that are projected
onto the walls, archeological ruins, bridges and hidden
pathways of the ancient citadel, the Tower of David.
Medialon Manager controls the entire AV equipement used
on the show, including twenty projectors driven by ten
Onlyview servers and ten Adtec High Definition players,
as well as Alesis hard disk audio player used for the
multichannel soundtrack. The sound system is by NEXO.
Medialon Manager is also used to overview and maintain
the system (projector errors, lamp life, etc.).
“Patrick Dury from ETC has recommended Medialon for the
project and we have approved gladly. In our experience
with Manager, there is rarely something you cannot do
with it and with this project, which had a lot of
unknown’s, we were very happy to have such a tool” said
Asi Goren from Protech Integration.
The show will be running four times a week, under almost
any weather condition.
