Providing user-friendly video-playback control to a new
museum dedicated to 16th century Swedish astronomer
Tycho Brahe was one of the challenges faced by
Informationsteknik Sweden a company supplying creative
AV solutions throughout Scandinavia .
In designing the museum’s AV installation,
Informationsteknik Sweden turned to Medialon for a
control system easily operated by museum guides who are
not technicians.
Located on the island of Ven , in the sound between
Denmark and Sweden , the new museum is housed in the
former All Saints Church where the scientist’s life and
achievements are depicted through reconstructed
instruments, video shows, multimedia and archaeological
finds from the area. Brahe, who did his research on Ven,
revolutionized astronomical instrumentation and changed
observational practice. He charted positions of the
stars and planets -- with unparalleled accuracy -- using
instruments he built himself.
Since museum guides, not video technicians, control
video playback, a one-switch system to trigger the start
of the videos was essential. Informationsteknik
installed and programmed the solution, which features
Medialon Manager at its core.
Medialon Manager controls the start of the videos, which
run every quarter hour between 10 am and 6 pm, and
offers four different light settings for the space,
dependent on the season and time of day. The computer
controller also offers password-protected entry for the
lighting designer who can control the DMX value of each
channel in each preset.
Since each of the two available videos is available in
Swedish, Danish and English, with or without subtitles,
a combination of playback language options is also
offered on Medialon Manager. |
