VTT (Valtion Teknillinen Tutkimuskeskus), the Technical Research Center of Finland, has selected Medialon show control for a permanent exhibition giving visitors a look into the world of VTT, the biggest multidisciplinary research organization in Northern Europe and one of the continent’s leading research centers.

Medialon Manager was chosen to control an extensive array of AV devices, providing easy on-site programming and perfect synchronization of video, Dataton WATCHOUT animations and lighting pre-sets during the exhibition’s multimedia presentation.

The Medialon show control PC is located in the exhibition’s server/machine room. The system controls work lights, a video switcher, an audio/video matrix, visual cue lights, a KVM matrix switch and more through 15 RS232/485 serial ports. A rugboard (wireless touch screen) with Medialon panel software, Medialon Manager V3 PRO software and two laptops manage the presentation in the exhibition room.

The exhibition’s video system consists of nine 42-inch and three 61-inch Hantarex plasma screens. Six PCs for the plasma screens have also been installed on the Medialon PC allowing the systems to be remotely maintained.

The lighting component includes nine F.A.L. Stage 500 T fresnels and six SGM Ribalta 10x90 LED RGB Color Mix Wall washers. All DMX light cues have been recorded to Manager from a lighting desk, saving the cost of an external unit.

Audio systems consist of 12 JBL speakers, fed by Crown amps, and four JBL subwoofers. Two BSS Soundweb 9088 handle digital signal processing. Wireless mics are AKG WMS 4000 series.

System design for the exhibition was done by Imagemaker Oy with installation and programming by Studiotec Oy. "What made this installation unique was how we gave the users a compact touchscreen user interface including all the necessary controls to operate the different devices in a clear and flexible way,” notes Calle Rongain projects sales manager from Studiotec Oy. “By using the KVM extender in combination with Medialon, we were able to supply a very simple and secure cable setup."
