Worker's Museum,
Denmark

Installation : Multitekst, Blekksprut AS

The Worker’s Museum -also called Arbejdermuseet-, in Copenhagen, Denmark, is dedicated to the history of the Danish worker movement starting from mid-19th century.

Medialon has been selected as the main show control system for the “Industry worker” exhibition of the museum section.

The exhibition has been designed by Blekksprut AS who contracted Multitekst Ltd. to integrate Medialon.

The exhibition starts in an introductory room where a 7-minute long HD movie with historical facts is displayed on a 42” LCD monitor. A Danish and English version is available. The language option and movie play can be selected by the visitors themselves. Multitekst Ltd. has also created an option to allow museum officials to select sections of the introduction movie as well as the proper lighting cues by means of 7 push buttons, simply by activating a key switch.

While the movie is playing, a Medialon Manager Timeline controls a Kiss Box DMX512 device that activates the lighting of various objects in the room, according to the recorded presentation. A relay module also brings a mechanical model to life as part of the introduction story, focusing lights on it at the right moment.

After the introductory room, visitors go through several exhibition rooms. In a couple of them, “Listening posts” allow them to listen to interviews of workers of the local industry from a century ago. Medialon Manager commands the SoundMan-Server application module by Richmond Sound Design as audio source. SoundMan server is running on the same PC that runs Medialon Manager.

The Medialon Manager Pro license is also controlling seven Medialon Multimedia Interactive Players (MIP), five 37” LCD monitors as well as two B&O TV sets. A KissBox DMX512 interface controls the lighting of the exhibition, and all video and control signals are extended from the server room via BlackBox AV extenders.

Medialon Manager is also used at the floor entrance by the museum’s staff where a key switch allows them to easily switch on/off all the lights of the museum, remotely and automatically start the exhibition show, etc.

“I am quite pleased we were able to use only one PC to run Medialon Manager as show controller, LocalMediaPlayer MxM to show the HD videos on the Intro screen, as well as run the SoundMan-Server application. Well written software does not stress the computer at all”, concluded Vidar Eggen, Expert programmer from Multitekst.
